SZA’s New Album ‘SOS’

SZA is a Grammy award-winning R&B soul artist with many hit songs and albums, including Child’s Play and CTRL, as well as many singles, such as ‘Good Days’, ‘I Hate You’, and ‘Shirt’, which will appear on her new album. Her last album, ‘CTRL’ was released on June 9, 2017, and she later followed it with the release of new songs on the album in 2022, the deluxe version. ‘CTRL’ reached number three on the Billboard 300 chart and was certified double platinum. Other artists who appeared on this album included Kendrick Lamar, James Fauntleroy, and Isaiah Rashad, and one of the album’s top songs, ‘Love Galore’, featured Travis Scott. 

Her new album includes appearances with the previously mentioned Travis Scott, Don Toliver, Phoebe Bridgers, Wu-Tang Clan, and Ol’Dirty Bastard. This album has 23 tracks on it, with already-released singles. SZA hinted at her comeback into the music industry when she dropped her PSA video with the song ‘Shirt’ in it. In an interview with Complex, SZA discussed her thoughts and the various aspects of her album: “I don’t even know what this album is about and what it sounds like. This is why I had to go to the mode of what feels good to my brain and to my energy and the songs that I think are hot, I just have to go with them. I have no idea what it sounds like to anybody else. I really don’t know. It’s so bizarre. Weirdly, I can’t put my finger on it. It’s a little bit of everything. It’s a little aggressive. Some parts are incredibly soft. Some of them are ballads. I don’t know. It’s all over the place. It’s just where my heart is” (Interviewed by Aria Hughes, Complex).

SOS is set to release on December 9, 2022, and has already gained tremendous popularity and support. Thanks to her already-released singles, SOS is qualified for Gold status, which is awarded to songs or albums that sell 500,000 units. This is SZA’s first album in five and a half years, however, she has been releasing new singles with.
