Top 10 Lunch Spots Around BH!
As we begin the new calendar year and embrace its new challenges as Branksome students, sometimes we just need a break and some good food to nourish and energize us. These are my 10 favourite food spots near BH that you should visit during your next lunch period.
First, we have the iconic McDonald’s, a personal and BH fan favourite lunch spot for all grades. Located at 345 Bloor St E, this spot offers everyone a wide range of breakfast and lunch options. Whether it’s their iconic Big Mac, a 10-piece Mcnugget or even a Mcflurry, Mcdonald’s is a safe bet for every eater. It is important to note the wait can vary depending on when you order, but the self-use tablets in the front entrance make it easy to pick and go.
Coming in second, we have another iconic fast food chain, serving up some crispy chicken: Popeyes. Located at 366 Bloor St E, in a quiet strip, this spot is cooking up some crispy goodness every day. The menu includes their famous juicy Louisiana fried chicken with a wide variety of sides to pick from: mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, biscuits, and many more. The restaurant always has seating available, and the wait is pretty quick when getting your food.
At number three, we have a truly underrated spot among the BH community: Pita Land Urban Mideast Cuisine. This spot is hard to miss. Located at 407A Bloor St E, next to the Tim Hortons, it serves some hot and fresh shawarma with a wide variety of combos to choose from. The menu includes salads, burgers, wraps, falafel, fries, and bowls, all served with fresh chicken and beef shawarma. This restaurant may be tiny, and the wait may be a little longer, but it’s so worth it, and seating is always available.
Number four on our list is a personal favourite of mine and one of my favourite burrito spots, Fat Bastard Burrito. Located at 366 Bloor St E in the same strip as Popeyes, this spot is a quick and easy choice. The menu includes nachos, loaded fries, and burritos. My personal favourite is their burrito-style bowl with protein, rice, beans, cheese, and veggies, topped with their sauce selections, all making for a filling, delicious lunch. This spot is super quick, and there is seating available to dine in.
Halfway through our list, we have another popular spot in the BH community, Kibo Sushi, located at 345 Bloor St E. Tucked away in the corner of the indoor mall, this spot offers fresh and quick food. They have a variety of sushi and sashimi platters, as well as lunch specials. This spot doesn’t have a long wait at all as the food is right at the front for a quick grab-and-go style. There is seating available to dine in.
Coming in at number six on our list is another underrated gem serving Filipino-style fried chicken and cuisine: Chester’s Fried Chicken. Located at 23 Howard St, they serve Filipino-style take-out and crispy chicken. The menu offers lumpia, fried chicken boxes, pancit, the famous Filipino dessert, Halo Halo, and many more. There are also fresh mango drinks to go along with your order. The wait is also quick and easy, as it is a takeout-style restaurant with available seating.
At number seven, we have another personal favourite of mine, Maja Indian. Located right next to the McDonald’s at 345 Bloor St E, this restaurant serves up some delicious Indian cuisine when you are craving it. The cuisine is vast with their tandoori chicken, snack samosas, and biriyani (my personal pick).
Coming in at number eight is a super healthy spot serving up burritos, warm bowls and salads: Mad Radish. Located at 120 Bloor St E, near Bloor and Yonge station, this spot is small but hard to miss. Offering healthy, filling meals, it’s a great spot for a super quick lunch or even after-school snack, with a short wait and seating options.
Number nine is not your typical restaurant and is the only exclusively take-out spot on this list: Seoul Food Take-Out. This unique restaurant is located at 606 Sherbourne St, serving up only 1 item a day on a weekly menu rotation. This spot offers yummy foods like Korean chicken curry, bulgogi, and Korean spicy pork. The cuisine is delicious, cheap, and made with love. But, keep in mind that this spot is cash only!
Last but not least, number ten: Sushi Shop. This spot is located at 175 Bloor St E. Not only is this small restaurant serving up fresh sushi every day, but also fresh poke bowls with a variety of other Japanese cuisine items, like karaage (Japanese fried chicken) and tempura. There is also a wide selection of bubble teas! The wait for food and seating may vary based on timing, but the restaurant also offers take-out.
